Kilele #11 - personal favourites from the past (few) weeks

1. Faith and Skubi wed in Nairobi, Kenya by Mutua Matheka

Lovely series from one of my favourite Kenyan photographers, Mutua Matheka. Check out his blog for more

2. Chichia for Made by Africa SS’12 collection

By Tanzanian Christine Mhando, I love this mix of khanga and jersey. The whole collection is ethically produced in Tanzania.

3. Labadi Beach Street Style in Accra, Ghana by Nana Kofi Acquah

I always enjoy browsing Nana’s photoblog which gives you a glimpse into Ghanaian daily life with humourous commentary to boot.

4. Maria Nyerere in Dar es Salaam 1961

Found this great photo of Maria Nyerere, the wife of Julius Nyerere, on flickr via the “Africa through a lens” project. This is part of the Colonial office photographic collection held at the British National archives. There are hundreds of photos on flickr and worth browsing through if you’re interested in colonial photography. Colonial photography had a great impact on how Africa and its inhabitants were and continue to be viewed so it’s definitely worth exploring
